Sailing Wave Rover
Canada
Приєднався 2 бер 2019
Chapter 1 of Sailing Wave Rover (a 1979 Contessa 26)is all about how I rebuilt her from the keel up in 2018-19. After her launch in 2019 we (Wave Rover and me) embarked on a one year Atlantic circuit. We crossed the Atlantic twice and had some great adventures as can all be seen in the early episodes.
The channel continues 20 Aug 2021 with the building of my new boat. Wave Rover hull #1 is a brand new 21foot Junk rig design. It encompasses all the things I require to fulfill the Wave Rover philosophy of keeping it small, strong, and safe. Wave Rover 2's mission is to comfortably cruise both oceans and coastal.

Eu desejo a você uma grande travessia! Muito inspirador esse seu feito!
Fair winds and following seas. Stay safe, and I look forward to future videos on crossing the pond.
Fair winds and following seas 👍
👍👍😊
And you’re off again!
Awesome video!! Can’t wait to see the rest of the crossing.
So what was the problem with the self steering?
Hold Fast , Mate !
Wishing for you just the right balance of peace and excitement. The name of my boat is "Spirit of Adventure" - but it really fits you, your journey and your boat. Fair winds to you.
Thanks for sharing that
Ah! beginning at minute 9:47 such a beautiful talk about the truth of what you’re doing, along with the perfect visual and musical accompaniment. Thanks so very much for your heartfelt candor.
Thanks Glenn
You deserve more subscribers !!
Maybe one day!
I enjoyed the lengthy anecdote about your trials and tribulations with the Mk III self-steering, but I'm curious to know what the solution turned out to be. You said you set it up when you reached the bay, and it finally started working! You then said you began to truly understand trim-tab self-steering. However, you didn't say what you may have done differently this time to make it work, or what it was about it that you'd begun to truly understand. Apparently, it wasn't working properly, then it was! Still wondering . . . This was a very enjoyable episode, particularly the segments where you were just sailing. No voice-over or background music, just the sounds of sailing. Fantastic.
I been following you for awhile...nice to see AIS says you made it to Ireland safely.
Let's gooo! So happy and inspiring! Thank you
You're so welcome!
Why do you reserve the drogue only for extreme conditions? Why not use it anytime you're being blown backwards from your course?
It's very hard to retrieve
Fair winds Rover.
If I’m this excited, I can’t imagine how excited you are! The butterflies must be flying from your stomach and out your ears by now.
Fair winds!!
Fair winds and following seas… 🇨🇦🇺🇸
Great and positive start to your crossing. Will be watching with anticipation. Im sure you will share the crossing stats when you can. Fair winds
Thank you, I will
And away we go! Cheers
One of the best if not the best video you ever made dear Alan. I truly enjoyed it. Congratulations to the brilliant story telling and great music. Very impressive and motivating to be able to follow you and your journey. Good luck dear friend
Many thanks, and I'm glad you enjoyed it
How will you upload these engrossing videos when you are miles from a wifi connection or cell tower? Do you have an Iridium tracker updating a webpage? Safe travelling.
I had to upload the videos after getting to the Azores. I hope that doesn't spoil it for you.
@@SailingWaveRover you have, lol. I need counseling..
Pure class 👏
Thanks Sean
Honestly Alan, Please make a LONG video that is just Wave Rover cruising through the infinite blue to the noises of the wind and waves. That segment was so relaxing. Great narration and oceanic philosophy, One of your best videos yet.
Thank you so much.
Godspeed Alan!
Come a LONG way from that loony in a shed fiddling with acres of white wood - in quite a short time. Intrepid is a fair description! Fair winds.
Looney...lol

Totally amazing to watch you hoist the sail on this huge adventure. Safe passage to you and Wave Rover. Thinking of Mrs Rover also, what a wonderful woman to be OK with you forging your adventure. It must be love❤❤
She's the best!
Bon voyage Allen
How can we track you
Can we track you and how
Great self steering story. Thanks for sharing. In one scene, you have your handheld VHF radio resting above your hatch. Made me nervous to think it could just slide off into the water. I was sailing a 26' boat off the coast of Georgia (US) once. I had put a cell phone in the kangaroo pouch of my sweat shirt and I told myself "Now you can't fix anything as that phone will likely slip out if you start bending over, etc..." Well, something was jammed at the base of my mast and I got down on my belly to fix it. My phone slipped out and bounced overboard. I still have the image in my mind of it falling down through the water. Darn. I'm in the process of converting a head in my 44' sailboat to a pantry/laundry room. The shelves are in my garage with the stain drying... I'm trying to decide if I should glue the fiddles on with regular wood glue or epoxy... I'll probably try the epoxy but it's harder to work with. Fair winds.
Thanks for sharing 👍
bon voyage!
Good luck man.
I'm not sure I'd be able to give you any advice, but it seems to me from my seat that the bar movements are too important. It might be a good idea to limit the bar's travel to make the path less slippery and more stable. let it a try !!! as we say in France "bon vent".
That is a small boat crossing a very big pond. The very best of luck my friend.
Having watched you build the boat I'm in awe of the adventure your about to take on, very best of luck 👍
Thank you Mark
No Starlink?
This is a very low budget adventure.
Excellent video Alan and fair winds for the crossing. Are you going to share your learning with the MK3 with those who purchased the plans - I do know that Tony on SV Tapatya is have ‘setting to work’ issues now he is underway?
Let’s go!!!
Fair winds Allen. If you are heading to Algarve, do stop for a break in Vilamoura. I will be very happy to host you here for a well earned R&R.
That's very kind my friend. I haven't made any plans yet beyond Ireland
All the best Alan....... fair winds and blue skies all the way across the pond. Hopefully you get to come to the UK and lets hope you never need to use the drogue ever.
Great video as always Alan. Good luck on YOUR adventure.
Thank you Bruce.
Wonderful, she looks fast and tracking straight as a die. I like your choice of music, nice and understated.
Thank you
Thanks again for sharing so much of your journey! Good luck!
Thanks for watching!
Nice video, thanks.
No worries my friend!
